During The source + design workshop, we'll cover :

  • Round Top can be walked two ways: as a shopper hunting for something you like, or as a designer sourcing with intention.

    I will teach you the elements and principles of design well enough to spot them in a single piece, a whole vignette, or an empty tent full of possibility.

    That eye is the real difference between decorating and designing.

  • Every showroom vignette hides a hundred small decisions.

    We walk through one of the best in Round Top and take it apart piece by piece, why this lamp sits exactly here, why these two textures work together.

    You start seeing the decisions other designers hide inside a finished room.

  • A piece is only yours to study for as long as you're standing in front of it.

    You sketch it, document it, and decide right there whether it earns a place in your concept.

    What you walk away with works like a field guide to interior design, built by your own hand, ready whenever you need it again.

  • This is where sourced pieces stop being a pile of maybes and start becoming a room.

    You work side by side with me in my studio as I guide you through turning what you found into real sketch layouts, with other designers at the table to collaborate with and bounce ideas off of.

  • You leave with a finished conceptual sketch, rendered in color with design markers.

    You keep this phase loose, focused on a strong concept you can build from later.

    This is where your ideas get formed, dreamed about, and pulled out of your own head and onto paper.

About Shannin

One of my students was mid-meeting with a client, no laptop, no rendering software, just a client waiting on an idea. She picked up a pencil and sketched it right there at the table. By the time she set it down, the client had already said yes. She walked out with a twelve-thousand-dollar check that day, no follow-up email, no second meeting.

I've watched some version of that same moment happen to designer after designer: standing in front of a client, or staring at a blank layout alone, certain of what the room should feel like but unable to prove it fast enough for anyone else to see it too. It gets called imposter syndrome. It isn't. It's a missing tool.

That's why I built BW School around one method: source with a plan, sketch it on the spot, and show the client the idea before it ever leaves your hand, the decision made visible while they're still sitting across from you, not a rendering that arrives days later.

We do this in the room, not through a screen: two days, hands and eyes and a table full of other designers, not a software tutorial you work through alone.

  • Two-day breakdown (Round Top sourcing day one, studio design day two). We take you to Round Top, TX to visit a showroom in the fields and then to Marburger Farms to source the items for your space. Then we bring it back to my studio and do the real work no one brags about, Designing a space on paper.

  • Glad you asked….It’s TBD but this will give you an idea.

    Day One: A Field Trip to Round Top, TX
    7:00am: Depart Galveston, with a quick breakfast stop along the way
    10:00am: Arrive at The Horseshoe in Round Top. Tour the showroom and study how real vignettes get built
    12:00pm: Lunch in Round Top
    1:30pm: Tour the Marburger Farms tents, including a conversation with vendor Lonesome Pine Home about vintage furniture
    Afternoon: Source your own pieces in the tents until 4:00pm
    4:30pm: Depart Round Top for Galveston
    7:00pm: Arrive back in Galveston, day one ends

    Day Two: Design Studio Day
    7:30am: Breakfast at the Yume Collective, Galveston
    8:00am: Class begins. Pull together your sourced pieces and start designing your space on paper, in conceptual form
    12:00pm: Lunch at the Yume Collective
    1:30pm: Add color with design markers, bringing your conceptual sketches to life
    6:00pm: Workshop ends
